The Trumpet Heavyweights are coming to Indy Jazz Kitchen to unleash an explosion of world-class brass, celebrating the fiery improvisers and commanding bandleaders who push the music forward. This curated lineup brings a relentless line of premier horn masters to the club, delivering a masterclass in blistering tempos, complex rhythms, and fierce technical brilliance.


Jun 26 – Trumpet Mafia featuring John Raymond, Ashlin Parker, Bijon Watson, & Scott Belck

The Trumpet Mafia brings a heavy-hitting, New Orleans-style brass takeover to the stage, merging jazz royalty with the next generation of visionary talent. Hosted by acclaimed trumpeter and IU professor John Raymond, this high-energy showcase features a powerhouse lineup including Grammy winners Ashlin Parker and Bijon Watson, alongside the formidable Scott Belck. Featuring rising Indianapolis stars Kent Hickey and Sam Butler together with the elite IU Jazz Trumpet Studio, the ensemble delivers a masterclass in technical brilliance and soul.

The Grammy-nominated Rodriguez Brothers bring an unstoppable energy to the stage, fusing elite post-bop sophistication with the sun-drenched rhythms of their heritage. Having collaborated with legends like Chick Corea and Wynton Marsalis, Michael and Robert Rodriguez lead their world-class quintet through a masterclass of driving piano montunos and soaring trumpet lines. Their sound is a global force—delivering a night of rhythmic intensity and soulful improvisation that is both brilliant and physically moving.

Grammy-winning trumpeter and vocalist Keyon Harrold is widely recognized for his genre-defying approach that seamlessly blends jazz with elements of hip-hop, R&B, and soul. With a successful career like supplying all the trumpet playing in Don Cheadle's Grammy-winning Miles Davis biopic, "Miles Ahead," and highly praised solo albums like "Foreverland," he's a highly sought-after collaborator, having worked with an impressive roster of artists such as Robert Glasper, Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, and Common, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and impactful force in contemporary music.
