Step into the extraordinary life of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a virtuoso violinist, composer, fencer, military leader, and advocate for equality, through The Chevalier, a groundbreaking musical play by Bill Barclay, coming to the Madam Walker Legacy Center on May 16, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.

Presented in partnership with Concert Theatre Works, The Chevalier features the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra performing live alongside the exhilarating solo violin of Brendon Elliott, complemented by costumed actors bringing Bologne’s story to life. Audiences will experience his remarkable journey, from composing alongside Mozart to performing for Marie Antoinette, and his courageous fight for justice during the French Revolution, while drawing poignant parallels to the ongoing pursuit of equality today.

“Bologne’s story is one of brilliance, courage, and resilience,” said Brendon Elliott. “With the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, we bring his music and life vividly into the present, honoring a figure whose genius and advocacy resonate more than ever.”

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness a forgotten musical and cultural pioneer. The Chevalier is more than a concert, it’s a powerful meditation on race, revolution, and rediscovered genius.
