Dust off your dirndls and lace up those lederhosen! The Athenaeum Foundation’s 17th annual GermanFest is set to take place Saturday, October 4, from noon to 6 p.m., transforming downtown Indianapolis into a lively celebration of German-American heritage. Tickets are now on sale and expected to go quickly for this popular fall tradition.
This family-friendly event, held in honor of German-American Day, invites the community to gather at the historic Athenaeum building for a day of authentic music, food, culture—and, of course, plenty of bier.
“Every year, GermanFest is a wonderful reminder of traditions and history that German immigrants have brought not only to America but central Indiana in particular,” said Craig Mince, President & CEO of the Athenaeum Foundation. “This year is no different! The day will be filled with German music, food, bier, and the return of our four-legged friends and the wiener dog races.”
Guests can expect a full slate of German-inspired fun, including:
Live German folk music and traditional dance performances
Authentic Bavarian cuisine and imported beer
Crowd-favorite wiener dog races
Family games and a dedicated Kinderland area for children
The festivities will take place in and around the Athenaeum, with the main entrance located on Michigan Street near East Street. Advance tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for children ages 4–12. Kids under 3 get in free. Day-of adult tickets will be $25, if available.
Whether you're coming for the bratwurst, the oom-pah bands, or the adorable dachshunds in action, GermanFest promises a festive afternoon full of culture, community, and cheer.
Tickets are available now at athenaeumindy.org. Don’t miss your chance to raise a stein and celebrate Indianapolis’s German roots!
