The Indianapolis Black Theater Company (IBTC) proudly announces the 2026 Indy Black Solo Fest, a four-night theatrical experience illuminating the legacy, artistry, and power of Black storytelling. Presented at The District Theatre from January 29th through February 1, 2026, this groundbreaking festival elevates solo performance into a ritual of music, memory, and liberation.

Curated around four movements—Roots, Sanctuary, Sisterhood, and Fire—each night features a distinct artistic lens, weaving together cabaret, testimony, concert-style performance, and Afrocentric theatrical aesthetics. With a live band, background vocalists, and culturally rich staging, the festival embodies IBTC’s mission to uplift Black voices and elevate black stories through Love, Excellence, and Support. With the ultimate goal of uplifting humanity. This year’s

festival will also have lyrical cyphers, a poetry slam, a VIP experience, and more!

A Festival Rooted in Purpose

The 2026 Indy Black Solo Fest honors the legacies of Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Fred Hammond, Nina Simone, Babyface, and more. Each performance blends personal narrative with collective memory, cultivating a transformative space where art becomes testimony and music becomes healing. Audiences will witness six original works that confront history, celebrate identity, and ignite a vision for the future of Black performance.

Artistic Director Tijideen Rowley on the Festival’s Impact: “When you purchase tickets to see these solo performances, you are joining us in a movement to elevate Black stories. That elevation is something that will ultimately uplift humanity as a whole. The success of IBTC’s 2026 and 2027 seasons start with the success of the 2026 Indy Black Solo Fest. It is so important to what we are doing moving forward.”

He continues, “The artists participating in this year’s Indy Black Solo Fest are truly dynamic; dynamic in their personalities, dynamic in their journeys, and dynamic in the stories they carry. Each of them is experienced, having weathered both the highs and lows of this industry, yet they have all stayed the course in their own powerful way. I am deeply inspired simply to be in community with this group of artists. My hope is that everyone who attends the Solo Fest feels that same inspiration and experiences liberation and true joy through the beauty of watching dedicated artists live out joy, liberation, courage, and truth right in front of them.”
