Athenaeum

The Athenaeum Foundation will bring to life the world of spiritualism in Indianapolis during 1919 in an immersive experience known as The Gathering. The Athenaeum will be transformed into a pre-prohibition speak-easy that will include stories from different characters from that time, including a traveling medium who goes by the name of Madame Josephine. Guests will also be able to participate in a séance that will blur the lines of reality and spirituality to mirror the experimentation with spirits during the year of 1919. It is up to attendees to decide if they believe.

This embodied experience will come to life with the help of actors from in-house production group, NoExit Performance, who have not performed since 2020. Actors will interact with guests in the moment to envelop them within the period.

Separate showings will occur from Oct. 16-18 and Oct. 23-25. There will be two showings each night – one showing at 7:00 p.m. and the other showing at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale for $35, and VIP tickets will include two cocktails, free parking and a commemorative tarot card from the experience.
