The Cabaret Announces 2020 January-July Season

Joey Amato | December 16, 2019

The Cabaret is kicking off the New Year with another star-studded season. The lineup features acclaimed artists from the Broadway world and beyond, including two stars of the hit Broadway musical Hadestown and a performer who has played both Hades in Disney’s Descendants 3 and a variety of dark roles on FX’s American Horror Story – hence the season “going to hell,” but in the best way possible.

Before heading “way down [to] Hadestown,” the season kicks off on Valentine’s Day with Tony and Grammy winner John Lloyd Young. Young played Frankie Valli in the original Broadway cast of Jersey Boys as well as in the Clint Eastwood Warner Bros. movie adaptation. His show features the soul-bearing showstoppers that shaped his earliest Broadway aspirations, including songs from Jersey Boys, The Wiz, Chicago, and more – perfect for a Valentine date night.

On February 29, Berlin’s legendary cabaret sensation Ute Lemper takes the stage as part of The Cabaret’s new Christel DeHaan International Series. Her show, Rendezvous with Marlene, is a theatrical cabaret performance based on a real phone call between Ute Lemper and cabaret legend Marlene Dietrich.

The Cabaret’s signature Glick Philanthropies Broadway at The Cabaret Series continues with a bevy of stars, including “bodacious riff monster” Jessica Vosk (Wicked, West Side Story, Finding Neverland), Tony-winning powerhouse Beth Leavel (Mamma Mia!, Baby It’s You, 42nd Street!), and Telly Leung (Aladdin, Rent, Godspell) accompanied by a string quartet.

Escorting us to Hadestown will be two-time Tony-nominee Eva Noblezada (Kim in Miss Saigon, Eurydice in Hadestown) on April 25 and Tony, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk Award-winner Andre De Shields (title role in The Wiz, Hermes in Hadestown) on May 15-16. Noblezada’s show, Ballad of a Broadway Twenty-Something, presents a mix of pop ballads, jazz standards and musical theater favorites. De Shields’ show, Old Dawg; New Tricks, includes a variety of songs from his illustrious career that’s spanned a half-century.

“Hadestown is one of the biggest shows on Broadway right now, and we are so fortunate to be able to present two of the leading cast members,” says Shannon Forsell, Artistic Director and CEO. “Both Noblezada and De Shields bring incredible talent and energy to the stage, but with such drastically different styles that represent two totally different generations of Broadway and cabaret,” says Forsell.

For those who are more in tune with television’s various interpretations of hell, Grammy-nominee Cheyenne Jackson (Disney’s Descendants 3, FX’s American Horror Story, NBC’s 30 Rock; Broadway’s Finian’s Rainbow, Xanadu, Damn Yankees, 8) will be performing alongside Tony-nominee megan Hilty (NBC’s Smash; Broadway’s Wicked, 9 to 5 The Musical, Noises Off) on June 19-20. These two major stars of stage and screen put on a show that celebrates songs from Broadway, film, and the American Songbook.

The 2020 January-July Season at The Cabaret will close with performances by critically acclaimed singing string quartet Well-Strung on July 24-25. The group has received rave reviews from the New York Times for “brilliantly fusing pop and classical music” from Mozart and Vivaldi to Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Pink, Lorde, U2, and more.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Tuesday, January 14 at 10AM and can be purchased online at THECABARET.ORG or by calling 317-275-1169
