The “war to end all wars”—WWI—will be commemorated with a living history event in Vincennes on March 28 and 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Indiana Military Museum.

There is free admission to outdoor events and exhibits both days. The event also features free parking. The public can interact with dozens of reenactors, from both allied and central powers, and see weapons demonstrations, troops living in a 100-yard WWI era trench, and witness battle reenactments twice per day. Food and artifact vendors will be on site. Depending on the weather, there may also be possible flyovers.

“Each spring we host World War I remembrance days. The event is dedicated to the men who fought in the trenches. Throughout both days we demonstrate what the war was like for the soldiers,” said Jim Osborne, curator of the Indiana Military Museum.

Located at 715 S. 6th St. in Vincennes, The Indiana Military Museum has one of the best comprehensive collections of military memorabilia in the country. Exhibits include multiple eras of military vehicles, aircraft, and artillery, most of which can be viewed in the outdoor campus of the museum.

While admission to the outdoor campus is free, additional uniforms, insignia, and artifacts can be viewed inside the museum for a fee of $10 for adults and $6 for children. Seniors and veterans receive a $1 discount and WWII veterans are admitted free.  Additional information is available at the website: IndianaMilitaryMuseum.org, or on Facebook.
