Art enthusiasts, collectors and admirers of the American West will once again have the opportunity to experience one of Indianapolis' most prestigious cultural events when the 21st annual Quest for the West® Art Show & Sale returns to the Eiteljorg Museum Sept. 11-12.
Recognized as one of the nation's premier Western art exhibitions and sales, the annual event brings together 50 of the country's most accomplished painters, sculptors, ceramic artists and printmakers, all showcasing original works inspired by the landscapes, wildlife, cultures and enduring spirit of the American West.
Unlike a traditional art exhibition, Quest for the West® offers registered guests an immersive collector experience. Throughout the opening weekend, attendees will enjoy artist receptions, elegant dining and the opportunity to meet many of the featured artists while learning about the inspiration behind their work. The weekend culminates in two fixed-price, luck-of-the-draw art sales featuring approximately 200 newly created pieces, giving collectors a unique opportunity to purchase original artwork directly from some of today's most respected Western artists.
From sweeping mountain landscapes and dramatic wildlife scenes to expressive sculptures, captivating portraits and contemporary interpretations of Western life, the exhibition showcases an impressive range of artistic styles and mediums. Whether you're a seasoned collector or purchasing your very first original artwork, Quest for the West® offers something for every level of art enthusiast.
Since its debut in 2006, the event has generated more than $20 million in art sales, helping establish Indianapolis as an important destination for Western American art while introducing countless collectors throughout the Midwest to this celebrated genre.
"Quest for the West® offers an experience unlike any other," said Kathryn Haigh, president and CEO of the Eiteljorg Museum. "Collectors have the opportunity to meet extraordinary artists, hear the stories behind their works and purchase exceptional pieces that celebrate the enduring spirit, beauty and many cultures of the American West. Whether you are an experienced collector or purchasing your first original work of art, Quest for the West® is the perfect opportunity to begin or grow your collection."
Even if you're unable to attend the opening weekend festivities, the artwork will remain on display through Oct. 11, giving museum visitors nearly a month to view the remarkable collection before the purchased pieces make their way to collectors across the country.
This year's celebration also includes a special exhibition honoring 2025 Quest Artist of Distinction Tim Cherry. Known for his whimsical bronze wildlife sculptures, Cherry's work will be featured Aug. 22 through Sept. 27 in the museum's Ruth Lilly Community Art Gallery. Admission to this special exhibition is free, making it an excellent opportunity for visitors to experience the work of one of Western art's most beloved contemporary sculptors.
For those looking to add an original work of art to their collection—or simply enjoy an extraordinary showcase of artistic talent—Quest for the West® continues to be one of Indianapolis' signature cultural events, bringing the beauty and history of the American West to the heart of downtown.
