Bruce Kidd is a life-long Indy area resident and a live music lover since he was 10. He thinks music is the universal language of hope and joy; and that “once you take care of your family and friends, you have a responsibility to help those in need to make our community better for everyone”.
So, in January of 2016 he created Concerts for a Cause to combine that love of live music and his desire to help local small Non-Profits that are providing vital support to kids and adults dealing with medical, developmental, emotional or economic challenges. The mission was very simple, “do all the good we can, in all the ways we can, for all the people we can, for as long as we can”.
Concerts for a Cause host four live concerts each year featuring local artists as the opening act, and national artists as the headliners. A $100 ticket to a concert includes a buffet dinner provided by local caterer, Chef Suzanne, and an open bar. A full evening of entertainment for one price. Mosti importantly, at each concert,100% of every dollar taken in through ticket sales is donated to a local organization so they can impact the lives of more kids and adults in need.
Bruce said he has two personal objectives for every concert – that every guest feels like they just experienced a very special evening, and they feel good that their ticket purchase will directly impact local kids and adults needing help.
Over 7500 people have attended the 41 Concerts for a Cause through February of 2026. Bruce is supported by an 8-person Board of Directors – volunteers with a passion for live music and compassion for those in need. And 20 local companies and individuals are annual sponsors or donors to the concert series.
Additionally, there are three local family foundations who love the mission and together they provide matching donations at each concert, which allows Concerts for a Cause’s donations to impact even more lives.
To date, Concerts for a Cause has donated over $900,000 back into the community and at the May 16th concert, they will surpass $1Million in donations. “We are only able to achieve that fantastic milestone because of the support of so many fellow Hoosiers” said Bruce. He added, “a lot of people around Indy who love music and/or care about helping others, still don’t know about our concerts, so we think there is lots of opportunity to continue to grow this concert series and expand the impact we have.”
Some of the organizations that have received support include Brooke’s Place, Children’s Theraplay, A Kid Again, Little Red Door, Jameson Camp, Agape, Brightlane Learning, Elevate Indy, Hear IN, Seeds of Caring, The Heart and Soul Free Medical Clinic, The Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation, Outside the Box, Joy’s House, Same as U, Teenworks, IN Wish, and Coburn Place.
Bruce says the May 16 concert will be a special evening of music and celebration for several reasons including hitting the $1Million milestone; the special guest headliner is Anderson native, and national recording artist, Jon McLaughlin; and the event will support Teachers Treasures, a local organization that provides free school supplies to kids from low income families.
Bruce said this season is filled with talented local and national artists who are all very excited to perform at a concert that has an important mission too.
