ICO Presents Captivating Pianist Gabriela Martinez in “Gardens of Spain"

On March 21, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra welcomes Venezuelan pianist, Gabriela Martinez, to perform the rare 1926 chamber orchestra version of Manuel De Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain. Join the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra for a vibrant evening of music—featuring the world premiere of CHROMA by acclaimed composer Stacy Garrop, commissioned through the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation and the League of American Orchestras. Stacy’s commission is underwritten by the Toulmin Foundation and FBT Gibbons. CHROMA lives up to its name—exploring a dazzling spectrum of musical hues in a piece that is both inventive and deeply resonant. The program opens with Copland’s lively Three Latin American Sketches and concludes with Gottschalk’s Symphony No. 2 (Montevideo), a spirited fusion of classical and Latin rhythms. Gabriela Martinez, is acclaimed for her lyrical playing and compelling interpretations. Described as “magical” by the LA Times, she made her orchestral debut at age six and has since performed with over 100 orchestras worldwide, including those in the U.S., Germany, Canada, Costa Rica, and Venezuela. Passionate about new music, she has commissioned and premiered works by prominent contemporary composers, and her debut album Amplified Soul was produced by GRAMMY-winning David Frost. Martinez has graced stages like Carnegie Hall, Salzburg’s Grosses Festspielhaus, and Paris’s Palace of Versailles, and has been featured on major media outlets worldwide. A Juilliard graduate and prizewinner at the Rubinstein and Van Cliburn competitions, she began her studies in Caracas with her mother and now serves on the artist faculty at Brevard Music Center.
