As the holiday season approaches, magic is already beginning to stir at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. Known for its warm, family-friendly productions and rich tradition in the Indianapolis arts scene, the theatre is preparing for another joyful year of holiday programming — and this year, it’s inviting young performers to be part of the celebration.

Beef & Boards has announced open auditions for children to appear in two of its most cherished seasonal productions: A Beef & Boards Christmas and A Christmas Carol. The theatre is looking to cast a variety of roles, offering local youth the opportunity to shine on stage and help bring the spirit of the season to life.

Bringing Holiday Traditions to Life

“There’s something magical about seeing young talent light up the stage during the holidays,” said a representative from Beef & Boards. “These productions are a highlight of our season, and they wouldn’t be the same without the energy and heart these young performers bring.”

For A Beef & Boards Christmas, which runs from November 28 through December 31, the theatre is seeking one featured boy and one featured girl, both between the ages of 8 and 16. Ideal candidates will have a big stage presence, the ability to sing well, and experience in tap dancing — a festive skill that will come in handy for this high-energy revue packed with music and holiday cheer.

The classic tale of A Christmas Carol returns to the Beef & Boards stage from December 5 to 22. Several young roles are available, including Tim Cratchit (ages 5–8), Boy Scrooge, Peter Cratchit, Turkey Boy (ages 9–14), and Belinda, Fran, and Martha Cratchit (ages 10–19). The production offers young actors the chance to explore meaningful storytelling and perform alongside seasoned professionals in one of literature’s most enduring holiday stories.

The Audition Process

Auditions will take place Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the theatre’s location at 9301 Michigan Road in Indianapolis. Callbacks will be held the same day. Auditions are by appointment only, and interested families can request a time through the link on the Auditions page at beefandboards.com. No phone calls will be accepted.

Young actors are encouraged to prepare a brief vocal selection of no more than 32 bars that showcases their range. They should bring sheet music in the correct key, as an accompanist will be provided — pre-recorded music is not allowed. In addition, performers should prepare a one-minute monologue, story, or even a joke to demonstrate personality and performance ability.

Costumes and makeup aren’t needed for auditions, but children should wear comfortable clothing and bring a current photo along with a short biography detailing any prior performing experience.

Beef & Boards embraces diversity and encourages auditions from children of all physical abilities and ethnic backgrounds. While past experience is helpful, the theatre values heart and potential just as much as stage credits.

A Unique Opportunity

Children selected for roles will receive a small performance stipend and a limited number of complimentary tickets to share their accomplishments with friends and family. Most importantly, they’ll gain valuable stage experience in a professional environment — and the chance to be part of a cherished holiday tradition that touches thousands of audience members each year.

“These shows aren’t just about performance,” the theatre representative added. “They’re about community, storytelling, and creating memories that last well beyond the curtain call.”

For young performers with a love of theatre and the holidays, this could be the perfect opportunity to step into the spotlight. Visit beefandboards.com to learn more and request an audition appointment.
