Indianapolis Opera will open its 52nd season with an evening of music, remembrance and community during the ninth annual Opera in the Park concert on Friday, Sept. 11, at MacAllister Amphitheater in Garfield Park.

Presented in partnership with Friends of Garfield Park, the free concert will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks while celebrating the unifying power of music.

Opera superstar and Indianapolis native Angela Brown will host the evening alongside Maestro Alfred Savia. The concert will feature bass-baritone Ron Dukes, tenor Joseph McBrayer, the Indianapolis Opera Resident Artists and Chorus, the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra and additional special guests.

Audiences can expect an inspiring program filled with powerful vocal performances and meaningful moments of reflection. The spacious park setting also provides an opportunity for guests to enjoy an outdoor picnic with friends and family. Food trucks, beer and wine will be available for purchase, although outside alcohol is not permitted.

Admission is free, but donations are encouraged to help Indianapolis Opera continue presenting accessible community events such as Opera in the Park.

Indiana Spine Group returns as a concert sponsor, with KeyBank joining as a new sponsor for this year’s event.
