As celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary continue throughout 2026, the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus will explore the nation’s history through the people, places and voices of Indiana.

“American Voices, Indiana Stories” will be presented by Crossroad, the chamber ensemble of the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center.

Held in the center’s Basile Theater, the special program will blend music, historical research and storytelling to illuminate the ways Hoosiers have contributed to the broader American experience.

“There are remarkable stories right here in Indiana that are part of the larger American story,” said Stephen McCoy, executive director of the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus. “This program gives us a chance to bring some of those stories to life through music and to celebrate the ways Hoosiers have helped shape our country.”

Connecting Music and History

“American Voices, Indiana Stories” is curated by Joseph Perkins Jr. of the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, with historical research and interpretation provided by Dr. Nicholas Johnson, associate professor of musicology at Butler University.

By pairing live musical performances with scholarship and storytelling, the program will invite audiences to consider both familiar and lesser-known Indiana stories. The collaboration is designed to place the state’s history within a national context while demonstrating how music can preserve memories, connect generations and reveal new perspectives on the past.

The concert also marks one of the first public programs presented by Crossroad. As the chamber ensemble of the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, the group offers audiences an opportunity to experience IMC singers in a more intimate performance setting.

A New Chapter for IMC

The program comes during the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus’ 37th season and its first season based at Butler University as part of the Butler Arts Collaborative.

Since its founding, the chorus has used music to create community, celebrate diverse voices and share stories that resonate throughout Central Indiana. “American Voices, Indiana Stories” extends that mission by examining the people and experiences that have shaped both Indiana and the nation.

Support for the program includes funding from the Indiana Arts Commission’s America250 Grant Program, provided by the State of Indiana and, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts. The performance has also been made possible through a grant from Indiana Humanities in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities.

“American Voices, Indiana Stories” will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Basile Theater at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis.

Tickets are $15 and admission is free for Indiana Historical Society members. Tickets can be purchased through the Indiana Historical Society.
