The Indianapolis Children’s Choir will open its 2026–27 concert season by offering audiences a rare glimpse into the learning, practice and discovery behind every performance.

“Growth,” presented Sept. 27 at the STAR Bank Performing Arts Center in Zionsville, will feature hundreds of young singers ranging from elementary through high school. The interactive concert begins at 7 p.m.

“This season will break down four primary elements of music—growth, connection, artistry and impact,” said Joshua Pedde, ICC executive artistic director. “Each concert will focus on one, illustrating how it plays out in the classroom and the community.”

For the season-opening performance, ICC will explore the skills young vocalists develop as they grow, including rhythm, part singing and the ability to discover their individual voices within an ensemble. The program will progress from introductory exercises to complete, advanced choral works, demonstrating how singers build their abilities at each choir level.

This time, however, the children will not be the only ones learning.

Audience members will be invited to participate in interactive elements throughout the concert, experiencing what it is like to join a choir from the opening warm-ups through the final note. The participatory format will transform the evening from a traditional performance into an engaging exploration of how music education works.

“It’s an honor to see children grow through the ICC’s choirs and programs, and we hope to bring that joy of learning to the audience in a new way at this performance,” Pedde said. “ICC rehearsals are not the same as a music class in school; they challenge singers to develop their own voice as they sing the part that best fits them individually.”

By opening the rehearsal process to the audience, “Growth” will showcase the work, curiosity and collaboration that take place before young singers ever step onto the concert stage.

“It’s an interactive and participatory experience unlike anything the ICC has done before,” Pedde said. “I know our singers will greatly enjoy sharing the rehearsal and learning experience with the audience!”

“Growth” will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the STAR Bank Performing Arts Center in Zionsville. Advance tickets are $18 and may be purchased at icchoir.org/tickets. Children ages 5 and younger may attend free but still require a ticket.

If the concert does not sell out in advance, additional tickets will be available at the door beginning one hour before the performance.
