Visitors have one final opportunity this season to explore the Indiana Medical History Museum’s Medicinal Plant Garden during a free guided tour on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the tour will introduce guests to the plants that have played important roles in medicine throughout history. The garden provides a fascinating look at the relationship between nature and health, highlighting plant-based remedies and the ways medicinal knowledge has evolved through the years.
The Indiana Medical History Museum offers free guided garden tours at 11 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month from June through September. Saturday’s program will be the final scheduled tour of the 2026 season.
Advance registration is not required. Guests should meet at the garden entrance approximately 10 minutes before the tour begins.
Located on the grounds of the former Central State Hospital, the Indiana Medical History Museum preserves an important chapter in the history of medicine and psychiatry. Its historic pathology building contains laboratories, teaching amphitheaters, medical artifacts and preserved specimens that help tell the story of medical education and scientific discovery during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Medicinal Plant Garden expands that story outdoors, allowing visitors to learn how plants have been used to treat illness, manage symptoms and contribute to the development of modern medicine.
The free guided tour begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. For additional information about the garden and the Indiana Medical History Museum, visit IMHM.org
