Some of the most recognizable images in the history of photography will be displayed in Indianapolis this fall when the Indy Art Center presents a rare exhibition drawn from the permanent collection of the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum.
The free exhibition, titled International Photography Hall of Fame, will be on view from Sept. 28 through Dec. 13, offering visitors the opportunity to experience more than 47 museum-quality photographs created by some of the medium’s most influential artists.
Among the featured works are Ansel Adams’ haunting Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico; Steve McCurry’s internationally recognized Afghan Girl; and John Loengard’s intimate portrait (Georgia O’Keeffe) Holding Eliot Porter’s Rock, Abiquiu, 1966. The exhibition will also include work by Alfred Stieglitz and other celebrated photographers whose images have shaped the way generations see people, places and pivotal moments in history.
Together, the photographs provide a sweeping look at the evolution and enduring power of the medium. From dramatic landscapes and portraiture to documentary images, the exhibition explores photography’s ability to preserve history, inspire curiosity and reveal perspectives that might otherwise remain unseen.
Based in St. Louis, the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum preserves and celebrates the history, art and science of photography. Its Hall of Fame recognizes photographers, innovators and industry leaders who have made significant contributions to the medium.
