Gainbridge Fieldhouse will transform into a celebration of family, music and Mexican culture on Oct. 8 when Pacers Sports & Entertainment hosts a free community screening of Disney Pixar’s “Coco” in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The family-friendly event is part of PS&E’s ongoing effort to connect with Indianapolis’ Hispanic and Latino communities while creating opportunities for families from across Central Indiana to gather and celebrate together.
“We’re excited to bring Hoosiers together for a family-friendly movie night that highlights Mexican culture, connection and the traditions of Día de Muertos,” said Tracy Ellis Ward, Pacers Sports & Entertainment senior vice president of external relations. “As we continue to find ways to amplify culture and engage people from all backgrounds, events like this give families a chance to come together, have fun and feel at home at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.”
While admission is free, tickets are required and will become available through Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 6:30 p.m. The first 500 guests to arrive will receive a voucher for complimentary popcorn.
Guests will also receive free parking in the Virginia Avenue Garage, located at 155 S. Delaware St. The screening will include bilingual closed captioning, helping make the experience accessible to both English- and Spanish-speaking audiences.
A Colorful Celebration of Family and Tradition
Disney Pixar’s “Coco” follows Miguel, an aspiring young musician voiced by Anthony Gonzalez, as he embarks on an extraordinary adventure in the Land of the Dead. Along the way, he meets the charming Héctor, voiced by Gael García Bernal, who helps him uncover the mysteries behind his family’s history and traditions.
“‘Coco’ is a beautiful story that resonates with audiences of all ages, and we’re excited to share it with the community,” Ward said.
The evening will extend beyond the movie with themed activities, giveaways and concessions inspired by Mexican culture and the animated film. Fans will have opportunities to win prizes including Disney On Ice and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey ticket packages, admission to upcoming Indiana Pacers games and other themed items.
A selection of food and beverages will be available for purchase, including cantina-style nachos, street-style tacos and a churro ice cream sundae. Guests can also try the signature Marigold Refresca, made with lime, Tajín, mint and sparkling water. Soft drinks, water, wine and draft beer will also be available.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
The screening is one component of PS&E’s Hispanic Heritage Month programming. Hispanic- and Latino-owned food trucks will visit Morris Bicentennial Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday throughout the month, giving downtown visitors an opportunity to experience food from local entrepreneurs.
The programming will build toward the Indiana Pacers’ Nov. 7 game against the Denver Nuggets in Mexico City. Taking place during the week of Día de Muertos, the international game will include themed arena elements and fan experiences celebrating Mexican culture and basketball’s global reach. Additional information is available at Pacers.com/Mexico-City.
The free “Coco” screening will take place Oct. 8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tickets will be available beginning at 10 a.m. on Sept. 17. For tickets, event updates and additional information, visit GainbridgeFieldhouse.com/Coco.
