For 26 years, the ooligan have not returned to the Bella Coola River. From a ramshackle trailer, Nuxalk Radio opens the case and what the airwaves reveal reaches far beyond the fish: settler tapes, buried declarations, a land claim filed the very day smallpox arrived. As the broadcasts pull back the layers, the ancestors stir alongside the living. A family returns to a village emptied for a century and when the trespass notice comes, they keep building. A Nuxalk biologist dreams the fish are coming home. Beneath the river’s surface, something is already moving.
